All about decorating your concrete

When using the colored surface overlay method or decorating your concrete surface, thin layers of concrete are laid on top of existing cement surfaces. This method allows for stamping (if carefully and properly done), color release, and chem. staining be used. (However, hardener color agents are not suggested, as they already contain something like it.) The layers can be as thin or thick as you please, (3/8? is the most common depth). You should always repair all damage to the pavement before applying this, as to prevent an ill affect known as ?telegraphing,? to occur. If your pavement is uneven, and you want to fix this, colored overlay material is often self leveling, though if you prefer the trowel, this is possible too.

Paintbrushes are also often used to apply stain, but you should of course, be careful, and not expect the brush to survive the use, what with using acidic stains. You should also watch out for brush marks, the strokes with the brush may be visible, and that is rarely something you’ll like the look of. Something else that’s often done with stains is to increase or decrease the concentration by using some water.
