Piling or piering to fix sunken concrete foundations

Were you looking for a foundation repair or garage foundation repair.

Piering is a foundation repair method (or a method of actually making a permanent foundations) that utilizes steel pilings and hydraulic jacks, or rams to right a sinking foundation. There are two main types of piers used for this: Push Piers or Helical piers. Push piers are heavy steal shafts, usually galvanized, or epoxy coated, hydraulically rammed into the soil. Helical piers, (helical after the word “helix” which is a spiral) almost resemble giant screws: again, galvanized or epoxy coated steel shafts with a support bearing threaded head. Helical piers are driven through the soil with a high torque hydraulic motor.

When your pier (either push or helical) reaches either rock capable of bearing the weight, or suitable soil, the piers are tested to see if they can support the weight of the entire structure, then tested for upwards of 50 percent beyond that. The piers are then fixed to the structure it’s self and the level of the foundation is locked.

This method makes a perfect foundation for simple structures such as porches, or decks, or prefab sheds.
