Not so new technologies in air cleaners and
filters Ultraviolet Light and Ozone technologies are not so new technologies and have been in use for the past several decades in a lot of hospitals. The air purification action of these technologies depends on the germ killing properties of the ultra violet light and the highly reactive properties of the ozone gas that is produced as a result of the high energy action on the oxygen atom in the atmospheric oxygen. Ozone, yes you heard it correctly "Ozone" can react quickly with chemical contaminants and attacks the biological agents such as bacteria, moulds, fungus and virus in the air to kill them and purify the air in a living space. However, it is desirable that the levels of ozone in the air be maintained within safe limits of 0.04 ppm as specified in United States Federal standards, otherwise the ozone in the atmosphere can be harmful to humans and animals living in the space. AHPCO™, which is an Advanced Hydrated photo catalytic Oxidation technology, consists of broad spectrum ultraviolet light targeted on a quad metallic catalyst in a low-level ozone and moist atmosphere and has been in use in the applications related to air, water, food and laundry. The AHPCO cell was developed for use in HVAC systems in 2003 and this method of application makes it possible to provide the fastest oxidizer distribution. Read more
